Trans: A Memoir explores gender politics and theory through Jacques's personal experience. The memoir spans Jacques’s university years through to her thirties, covering her interaction with British music and queer scenes and the development of her writing career and the coming-to-terms with her trans identity. The book builds on Jacques's newspaper column in which she chronicled her gender reassignment surgery.

Revealing, honest, humorous, and self-deprecating, Trans includes an epilogue with Sheila Heti, author of How Should a Person Be?
